How to get to Lake Garda

Lake Garda can be reached easily from every part of Italy and the whole world, thanks to its central position and good connections. You can choose to travel by car, train, plane, bus or, once you get here, you can also move from place to place by boat.

By car

For those who pick the car as a mean of transport, Lake Garda is reachable from north via the motorway A22 Brennero - Modena. Exit in Rovereto Sud if you want to visit the northern part of the lake (direction Mori, Torbole, Malcesine) or in Affi if you want to reach the southern part (direction Bardolino, Lazise, Garda). For those who come from east/west, you can take the motorway A4 Milan - Venice and exit in Peschiera del Garda, Sirmione or Desenzano del Garda.

The motorway in Italy is a toll road! You have to take a ticket once you enter the motorway and stop at the toll booth once you exit in order to pay the fare, calculated according to the distance travelled. In case you lose your entry toll ticket or you fail to withdraw it, you must pay the maximum fare. It is important to pay attention to the lanes, some of them are exclusively for cars provided with Telepass (an electronic toll collection system).

By train

The closest railway stations to Lake Garda are Desenzano and Peschiera del Garda to reach the southern part, Rovereto for the northern part. The central station of Verona Porta Nuova is also an important reference point, from where you can take a train to Peschiera del Garda and Desenzano, or reach the main towns of Lake Garda thanks to the numerous bus lines managed by ATV (Transport Company of Verona).

In summertime there is also a bus Walk&Bike available to everyone who does not want to forgo trekking and bike on Garda-Baldo, the mountainous area close to the lake.

By plane
