What to do on Lake Garda when it rains
You are all set and have everything planned for your next holidays on Lake Garda.
Once you arrive everything is just perfect until one day you wake up and realize that it is raining outside and your plans are ruined. Well, bad weather on holiday is always seen as an unpleasant event but if you are on Lake Garda there is no need to be depressed!
There are many things you can do and see even with the rain.
Culture, Art, History
On a rainy day, the first thing that comes to mind is surely a visit to one of Lake Garda’s museums. Among these are the Nicolis Museum of cars, engineering and mechanics, the "Torre Apponale" tower in Riva del Garda, the Tower of San Martino della Battaglia with the adjacent Museum of Solferino, the Museum of Fishing and Lake Traditions in Peschiera del Garda. And there is a lot more: the museum in the Castle of Torri del Benaco dedicated to the handicraft of the past, the "Museo dell’Alto Garda" (MAG) in Riva del Garda and for all art lovers, a few kilometres away, the exciting MART (Museum of Contemporary and Modern Art of Rovereto and Trento) in Rovereto.
If you travel with children, we recommend a visit to the Children's Museum in Verona, an experiential museum to discover science in an entertaining and interactive way.
Food and Wine
In order to experience the culinary traditions of lake Garda you can visit the Museo dell’Olio d’Oliva in Cisano di Bardolino, where you can find also old machines and tools that were used in the past and the Museo del Vino (Wine Museum), also located in Bardolino.
A valid alternative for all wine lovers is a visit to a wine cellar of the area, for instance Allegrini in the Valpolicella area, the Masi Wine Experience or a wine tasting at the Zeni wine cellar in Bardolino.
If you really do not want to forgo a dip in the water, why not going to a thermal center?
The most famous thermae of lake Garda are the Aquaria Thermal Center of Sirmione.
Some alternatives on the east side of the lake are Villa dei Cedri Thermal park in Colà di Lazise, Aquardens and Villa Quaranta in the Valpolicella area or the thermal center and SPA of Hotel Caesius, where you can savour all the benefits of the Bardolino thermal water.
Bad weather and shopping go hand in hand, and if the area offers various malls with any kind of shops even better! So take a wander at Leone in Lonato, very close to Desenzano del Garda, which offers also a free shuttle service from some towns of Lake Garda, or to the gallery Le Vele also in Desenzano. Other malls where you can spend a rainy day are the Grande Mela Shoppingland in Lugagnano di Sona, where you can also find a multiplex cinema and 20 bowling alleys, the Grand’Affi Shopping Center, not far from the highway exit of Affi or the new mall Adigeo in Verona.
Good news also for sports fans, who can meet climbing challenges in Arco’s Climbing Stadium with its covered climbing wall in front of Mount Colodri or in the King Rock gym in Verona, where you can also find a boulder zone, climbing spaces for kids and a big slide.
If you prefer to run a go-kart race you can enjoy the indoor track in Affi.
If you are looking for some fun activities, especially when you travel with children, you can go to Reptiland, a gallery of Natural Sciences in Riva del Garda or dive into the marine world of Gardaland SeaLife. And for an exciting dinner-show indoors, the Medieval Times in Lazise is just perfect: here you will have dinner while cheering to a knights’ tournament!
There you go, with these suggestions you will be ready to turn an apparently boring rainy day into a beautiful day!
