What to do on Lake Garda when it rains

First, read the article and then... bring the umbrella!

You are all set and have everything planned for your next holiday on Lake Garda. Once you arrive, everything is just perfect until the day you wake up and realize that it is raining and your plans are ruined. But bad weather on holiday is not the worst if you are on Lake Garda! There are so many things you can do and see even with rain on Lake Garda.

Are you a fan of history and culture? Do you enjoy sports or would you rather treat yourself to some relaxation? Whatever you prefer, you will find the right Lake Garda indoors activities here.

Culture, Art, History

On a rainy day, the first thing that comes to mind is a visit to one of Lake Garda’s museums. Among these are the Museum of Lake Garda in Garda and the museum in the Castle of Torri del Benaco, both dedicated to the artisan past of the lake region, or the Nicolis Museum of cars, engineering and mechanics in Villafranca.

From the Torre Apponale tower in Riva you can enjoy fantastic views of the centre and the lake. In Riva, you can also find the "Museo dell’Alto Garda" (MAG), which is a must for all art lovers: archaeology sections, lots of history and extraordinaries artists alongside temporary exhibitions. For lovers of Italy's most popular drink, also in Riva there is the Omkafè Coffee Museum. Here you can experience a sensory journey, touch raw coffee beans with your hands, learn about the different varieties and the secrets of extraction, admire the first coffee machines and discover secret recipes and ancient stories.

In Peschiera you can visit the Museum of Fishing and Lake Traditions, the impressive Sanctuary of the Madonna del Frassino and the imposing San Martino Tower with a breathtaking view from its top.
If you travel with children, we recommend a visit to the Children's Museum in Verona, an experiential museum to discover science in an entertaining and interactive way.

Food and Wine

The entire Lake Garda offers quality local produce, for example wine. Culinary experiences are perfect activities on a rainy day in Lake Garda and a great opportunity to learn more about local delicacies.

To immerse yourself in the food and wine traditions of the lake, you can visit the Olive Oil Museum in Cisano di Bardolino, which has historical machines and tools for oil production on display, or the Wine Museum inside the Zeni winery, also in Bardolino.

At Zeni, wine enthusiasts can also visit the wine cellar. Generally, wine tastings are a good idea in case of bad weather, join for example the Masi Wine Experience at the Farina Winery or the Canova Wine Experience in Lazise.

Relaxation

What better time to enjoy hot thermal waters than when it rains? In Bardolino, on the eastern shore of Lake Garda, you will find the spa and thermal water center of Hotel Caesius, with a 3000 m² spa to unwind and enjoy the benefits of the Caesius Thermal Water.

Hotel Caesius can be easily reached with our reliable and comfortable transfer.

Shopping

Bad weather and shopping go hand in hand. What a luck that Lake Garda offers various malls with all kinds of shops. We recommend a visit to the Il Leone in Lonato, just outside Desenzano, or to the Le Vele, also in Desenzano. Other shopping centres for rainy days are the Grande Mela Shoppingland in Lugagnano di Sona, which also houses a cinema and 20 bowling alleys, the Grand'Affi Shopping Centre at the Affi motorway exit, the Porte dell'Adige in Bussolengo or the Adigeo Shopping Centre in Verona.

If you`re travelling without a car, enjoy the Europlan Transfer Service for your shopping in Lake Garda.

Sport

Good news also for sports enthusiasts, who can meet climbing challenges in Arco’s Climbing Stadium with its covered climbing wall in front of Mount Colodri or in the King Rock gym in Verona, where you can also find a boulder zone, climbing spaces for kids and a big slide. If you prefer to run a go-kart race you can enjoy the indoor track in Affi. For lovers of the current trend sport padel tennis, there is, for example, the Padel Life centre in Costermano.

And when the rain is over, you have also the option to attend one of the many outdoor sport events that take place all year round.

Fun

If you are looking for some fun activities, especially when you travel with children, you can go to Reptiland, a gallery of Natural Sciences in Riva del Garda, to the Gardaland SeaLife aquarium, or to another theme park. And for an exciting dinner-show indoors, the Medieval Times in Lazise is just perfect: here you will have dinner while cheering to a knights’ tournament!

There you go, with these suggestions you are more than prepared to turn an apparently boring rainy day into a beautiful day to remember!
