Cascina Maddalena in Lugana di Sirmione is a small but charming winery on Lake Garda. In this picturesque setting, you will take part in a special and complete cooking lesson; starting from the picking of the local ingredients, through the preparation and the decoration, to the tasting of three matching wines from the same farm.
Lugana DOC Cascina Maddalena
A well made and very pleasant white wine that revels in the typical minerality of its calcareous-clay terrain. It is produced only with Turbiana grapes from the indigenous vines of the small farm. It presents a mineral flavour that rejoices in a dry sensation and ends with an almond aroma. It is perfect for an aperitivo and goes very well with typical local dishes like lake fish.
Rosato Rosanora Cascina Maddalena
Composed only by Marzemino grapes, Rosanora is a delicate and pleasant rosé. It is a light-bodied, fresh wine with a savoury aftertaste that comes from the clay-rich soil of the Lugana area. The alcohol content defines this wine as an aperitivo and it is particularly good with simple "primi piatti" with fish sauces.
Rosso dei 7 Scurtoni Cascina Maddalena
A pure composition of Cabernet Sauvignon. Its name comes after the word Scurtoni, which in the dialect of Brescia means "lines of vines". Sette Scurtoni (Seven Scurtoni) is deep ruby with violet tinges, its taste is fresh and pleasant and soft in tannins.
Arrival at Cascina Maddalena and a quick tour through the winery. Afterwards harvest of the vegetables in garden that will be used for the dishes. Cooking lesson with the teacher who will guide and supervise you during preparation. Dinner/lunch with the prepared meals together with the tasting of 3 in-house wines: Lugana, Rosato Rosanora and Rosso dei 7 Scurtoni. The below listed dishes will be cooked by the participants, including the tagliatelle or gnocchi dough. All the ingredients are from local farms.
Welcome snack: Bruschette with vegetables from the garden.
First dish: Fresh tagliatelle pasta with tomato sauce or gnocchi with butter and sage.
Second dish: Raw or cooked roulade.
Dessert: Sbrisolona (local crunchy tart).
